Messenger

Position Summary

The Messenger role at St. Boniface Hospital, facilitated by Shared Health in Winnipeg, Manitoba, involves the safe and timely transportation of various materials within the hospital complex and affiliated locations. Reporting to the Supervisor and embodying the hospital's mission and values, the Messenger is primarily responsible for moving mail, parcels, patient-related reports, medical charts, laboratory specimens, x-ray films, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and other essential items throughout the facility.

Key Accountabilities

• Physically transporting items such as mail, parcels, lab specimens, x-ray films, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies between different hospital departments and buildings.
• Following Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) protocols to ensure safety handling materials.
• Completing additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum educational attainment of Grade 12 or equivalent certification.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Legible handwriting, good telephone etiquette, and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Additional Requirements

• The role requires successful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check prior to employment. Charges for these checks are borne by the candidate, and the checks must have been completed within six months before starting the job.
• A single individual may not hold multiple positions within Shared Health collectively exceeding a full-time workload.

Work Conditions

• Full-time position with an anticipated start date of December 8, 2026.
• Day shifts with 7.75 hours of work daily, totaling 2015 hours annually.
• Onsite work at St. Boniface Hospital, under the Distribution Services unit.

Compensation

Salary steps available include $19.39, $19.96, $20.54, $21.14, $21.77, and $22.40 per hour.
