Mental Health Nurse - Nāhi Hauora ā-Hinengaro

Overview

This full-time position is based in Auckland's Calder Health Centre and forms part of Te Tāpui Atawhai – Auckland City Mission, which serves individuals facing poverty, homelessness, mental distress, and other social challenges. The Mental Health Nurse will provide compassionate, person-centered care aimed at improving the wellbeing, recovery, and stability for people experiencing complex social and mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop and implement care plans, and monitor well-being of residents and whānau with mental health needs.
• Provide expert mental health advice and collaborate with other Mission teams for optimal health outcomes.
• Participate actively in discharge planning and facilitate referrals to appropriate healthcare providers and support agencies.
• Identify clinical risks promptly and take necessary actions to ensure safety.
• Continuously improve service methods, efficiency, and quality of care delivered.

Qualifications and Experience

• Registered Nurse status with Nursing Council of New Zealand and current Annual Practicing Certificate.
• Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Mission values including Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū, and Mana Tika / Mana Ōrite.
• Established networks within community mental health teams including forensic and inpatient services.
• Strong empathy towards the impacts of colonisation, trauma, addiction, poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity.
• Minimum two years of mental health nursing experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
