Mau Tūtei - Behaviour Support and Access Management Officer

About the Role

The Mau Tūtei is an essential presence across all housing sites managed by Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai. The Mission shelters those recently homeless or at high risk, providing safe housing solutions. In this casual role, you will respond to incidents, offering support to fellow staff and leading incident management when required.

This position involves working with individuals who have endured trauma, addiction, and complex mental health issues, so occasional exposure to high-risk situations is expected. Comprehensive training and support will be provided to equip you with the necessary skills and understanding for this challenging role. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain on-the-job experience and potentially progress toward a long-term career at the Mission.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and manage challenging behaviour within the housing communities using trauma-informed approaches and effective de-escalation techniques.
• Build and maintain positive connections with tenants and their visitors, practicing whanaungatanga through empathetic, culturally sensitive communication and active listening.
• Administer access control for tenants and visitors to housing facilities.
• Collaborate with various Auckland City Mission teams to uphold safety and security standards for all residents and visitors.
• Incorporate understanding of historical trauma impacting Māori communities in all interactions.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous experience in security, housing support, or a similar field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Demonstrated commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and embodying the Mission's core values: Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū, Mana Tika, and Mana Ōrite.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed frameworks and proficiency in applying de-escalation methods.
• Comfortable with access control tools and Microsoft applications, including Outlook and Teams.
