Job description
Overview
The Ministry of Community Safety in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, is seeking dedicated Mental Health Correctional Officers to join their team. This role involves working with adult offenders in a secure facility setting to ensure their safety and accountability while fostering positive behavioral changes.
Responsibilities
As a Mental Health Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for the safe and secure management of offenders, delivering supportive interventions that encourage rehabilitation and reduce recidivism. Your duties will include maintaining facility security, enforcing rules, and working closely with offenders to promote positive behavioural outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills
Candidates should possess a solid understanding of the Canadian criminal justice system and human behavior principles to effectively aid offender transformation. A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License or its equivalent is required, alongside a First Aid and CPR/AED certification with at least 12 months remaining before expiry at the time of the Induction Training Program (ITP) commencement.
The educational background typically includes a university degree in Social Sciences or a related field, or a diploma in Law Enforcement, or a similar blend of education, training, and experience. Notably, the usual COPAT test has been temporarily replaced by a comprehensive medical exam conducted by a licensed physician.
Training and Important Dates
Successful candidates will enroll in an 11-week paid Induction Training Program starting October 5, 2026. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend the Virtual Public Information Session scheduled for July 29, 2026, at 12:00 PM for detailed insights about the position and training.
