Role overview

The Medical Writer will collaborate closely with scientific colleagues to create high-quality medical communications across multiple formats, including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, slide decks, presentations, and other medical affairs materials. The role focuses on producing accurate, polished, client-aligned content that meets internal standards and compliance expectations.

This position provides practical experience in medical communications writing and helps build a strong foundation in scientific storytelling, editorial best practice, and precision writing. It also involves supporting project delivery, managing deadlines, researching therapeutic areas, responding to review feedback, and keeping project time records aligned to budgets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop clear, accurate copy for a wide variety of medical communication deliverables such as abstracts, posters, manuscripts, slide decks, and related materials.
• Ensure work is completed to the expected quality standard, within budget, and by the agreed deadline.
• Communicate professionally with clients and external experts to support smooth progress on assigned projects.
• Review incoming comments and fold them into revised drafts while preserving scientific accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Share relevant updates and information with editorial and client services colleagues in a timely manner.
• Stay informed about the therapeutic area, competitor landscape, new products, and new indications connected to assigned accounts.
• Work with client services to flag any scope or deadline changes that may affect budgets or financial forecasts.
• Track actual time against budgeted time, submit timesheets accurately, and send them on schedule to the line manager, client services leads, and finance team each week.
• Keep up to date with industry self-regulation, compliance guidance, and client SOPs, while maintaining strong working practices.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will bring a life sciences background, preferably supported by a science master’s degree or PhD, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. A solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its processes is important, as is a high level of attention to detail and strong organization.

The role suits someone who can manage multiple tasks independently in a busy agency setting, learn new therapy areas and disease states quickly, and proactively share updates, ideas, and feedback with internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe is also expected.
