Job description
About the role
Tend Health Ltd is seeking a part-time medical receptionist for its Linwood practice in Christchurch. This position is a 1.0 FTE role, equal to 40 hours per week, and is suited to someone who understands the meaningful difference a receptionist can make to a patient’s day.
The role combines modern healthcare technology with a strong personal touch. While digital tools reduce routine administration, you will focus on the human side of the experience by offering reassurance, clarity, and thoughtful support when patients need it most.
What you will do
- Act as the steady, reassuring first point of contact for patients who may be stressed, uncertain, or confused
- Manage busy and often complex appointment schedules smoothly and efficiently
- Use the practice’s technology platform to reduce manual tasks and keep attention on patient care
- Work closely with clinical staff in a team environment that values reception expertise
- Handle sensitive or challenging conversations professionally and calmly
- Contribute practical ideas for improving workflows and patient experience
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in medical reception and genuinely enjoys the work. This opportunity is well suited to someone who builds strong working relationships, stays composed under pressure, and balances empathy with efficiency and high standards.
You should be comfortable resolving tension tactfully, caring about both patient experience and accuracy, and being part of a workplace that aims to elevate the role of reception in healthcare. A belief that healthcare should feel approachable and not intimidating is also important.
What makes you a strong fit
Successful applicants are likely to be the kind of receptionist that practices try hard to retain. You are remembered by patients and appreciated by doctors because you consistently get things right and genuinely care about people.
What we offer
You will join a team that is actively changing the way primary care is delivered in New Zealand. Your input will matter, whether it is about improving processes or shaping better patient journeys. The organisation also supports professional growth because excellent reception work requires skill and ongoing development.
