Job description

Job Overview

The Medical Officer will be responsible for overseeing the quality and delivery of healthcare services within Relief International-supported health facilities in Al-Hasakeh. Reporting directly to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, this role involves providing technical and supervisory support to healthcare and community health workers, ensuring compliance with established medical protocols, and contributing to health program planning and implementation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of health-related activities in supported facilities to meet quality care standards.
  • Offer daily operational support and conduct regular supervisory visits to healthcare providers across facilities.
  • Collaborate in creating health work plans based on community health needs and local context.
  • Develop and implement epidemic response strategies pertinent to local health threats.
  • Adapt programs according to evolving facility needs and monitor through monthly supervision checklists.
  • Conduct clinical audits and case reviews to ensure treatment aligns with guidelines.
  • Support integration of community health programs within primary care services, including CHW activity planning and training oversight.
  • Manage recruitment, assess capacity needs, and facilitate training for medical staff and partner organizations.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy staff to monitor drug usage and participate in routine health program meetings for coordination and problem-solving.
  • Engage with multiple teams including MEAL, protection, WASH, and health program officers for seamless program integration.
  • Document and report on health facility data, audit results, epidemic monitoring, and prepare regular reports for management.

Candidate Profile

  • Medical degree (Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health or equivalent) from a recognized university is mandatory; postgraduate qualifications in Public Health or related fields are advantageous.
  • At least three years' experience in clinical practice or supervisory roles within healthcare settings.
  • Familiarity with public health principles, medical protocols, and NGO work in humanitarian or development spheres.
  • Strong command of written and spoken English and proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Internet).
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills with cultural sensitivity, ethical conduct, and reliability.
  • Desirable experience includes managing health programs in emergency or low-resource environments and conducting healthcare staff training programs.

Additional Information

  • Regular travel to health facilities is required as part of supervision duties.
  • Position requires attending technical working groups and delivering medical and non-medical procurement lists as needed.
