Medical Laboratory Technologist at SEHA Kidney Care-Research

Role Overview

The Medical Laboratory Technologist is tasked with conducting chemical and biological analyses on patient samples to assist in medical diagnoses. This role requires adherence to international laboratory quality standards including ISO 15189, CAP, and AABB as defined by Pure Lab.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform established procedures to ensure the functional integrity of all medical laboratory instruments, including routine maintenance checks and calibration, and coordinate inspections with biomedical engineering and maintenance teams.
• Manage inventory to ensure availability of supplies and equipment necessary for laboratory operations, reporting shortages promptly and facilitating procurement in collaboration with supervisors and senior staff.
• Supervise junior laboratory personnel, ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures.
• Analyze patient specimens to identify normal and abnormal components, accurately record laboratory data into computer systems, and deliver results following defined standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure laboratory equipment is correctly used and report any malfunctions to supervisors for timely resolution.
• Promote continuous quality improvement by adhering to quality assurance measures, participating in method development, and complying with health and safety protocols including infection control.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere strictly to established operational guidelines.
• Document all interventions properly and support clinical audit processes within the facility.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, healthcare providers, and medical staff to clarify procedures, explain findings, and provide information as needed.
• Contribute actively to departmental training, staff orientation, hospital committees, and professional development activities.
• Maintain professional certification and licensure, and complete required mandatory training promptly.

Technical Skills

• Experience with ELISA techniques.
• Familiarity with flow cytometry.
• Operation of automated laboratory platforms.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent with a minimum three-year training program.
• Graduated from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist program with ASCP, CSMLS, or equivalent registration.
• Currently holds a Department of Health (DOH) license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
• Master's degree in Biomedical Science or relevant clinical field preferred, which can reduce experience requirements by one year.
• Minimum of four years of clinical laboratory experience, or at least one year of such experience if holding a master's degree.
• UAE nationals are eligible to apply upon completion of internship requirements.
