Job description
Position Overview
This role offers an exciting chance for clinical fellows to join the oncology department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust for a 12-month tenure covering maternity leave. Candidates will gain experience across all facets of Oncology, ideal for ST3-level trainees seeking additional exposure before securing a National Training Number (NTN).
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be assigned to an oncology consultant and undertake duties comparable to NTNs, including acute oncology cases, clinic participation, radiotherapy planning, and involvement in clinical trials. On-call responsibilities on the SPR rota are available for those fully qualified with MRCP. Candidates can discuss preferred site specializations, especially if considering paths such as palliative care or respiratory medicine.
Department Profile
The Department serves about 1.1 million residents and manages roughly 3,000 new patients annually, delivering extensive non-surgical Oncology services throughout the East Midlands. It includes approximately 30 Medical and Clinical Oncology Consultants providing specialized care within multidisciplinary teams.
Training and Research Opportunities
An active training program is available for junior staff, incorporating trainees from the Trent Deanery. The department currently has around 50 junior doctors in Clinical and Medical Oncology, including specialist trainees, clinical fellows, and foundation doctors. There is an internationally recognized postgraduate diploma course in Oncology offered by the Academic Department.
The department maintains an extensive Clinical Trials program supported by a dedicated research team engaged in academic, NCRN, and industry-sponsored studies, collaborating closely with the NCRN research team. Staff are deeply committed to multidisciplinary research, development, and clinical audit.
