Job Overview

The position of Critical Care Consultant is a senior medical role focused on delivering exceptional, evidence-based care within the critical care specialty. This role involves leadership in clinical governance, mentoring junior staff, engaging in quality improvement, and maintaining compliance with all healthcare regulations and policies in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the high-quality clinical management of patients, ensuring evidence-based diagnosis and treatment within critical care.
  • Perform thorough patient evaluations, including history taking, diagnostic testing, prescribing treatments, and directing inpatient and outpatient care including ward rounds.
  • Supervise and train junior medical personnel such as specialists, general practitioners, and residents.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate actively in on-call rotations providing coverage during evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of clinical data and adhere strictly to hospital and Department of Health policies, including infection control and safety standards.
  • Contribute to continuous quality enhancement through clinical audits, peer reviews, performance assessments, and risk management.
  • Effectively communicate clinical information to patients and families, ensuring informed consent and compassionate care.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possess an MBBS or equivalent degree from an accredited institution and completion of a recognized specialty training pathway such as board certification or fellowship from DOH-approved Tier 1 or Tier 2 countries.
  • Hold postgraduate medical qualifications like MD, MS, or DNB is preferred.
  • Have at least 3 to 7 years of clinical experience post-specialty in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment. Any experience gap over two years requires DOH approval or a return-to-practice program.
  • Be eligible for or hold a valid Department of Health Abu Dhabi medical license involving primary source verification, successful DOH exam completion unless exempt, and presentation of a Good Standing Certificate from previous licensing authorities.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, problem-solving skills, and dedication to ongoing professional development (CME/CPD).
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; Arabic language skills are a considerable advantage.
