Job description
About the role
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Medical Laboratory Assistant to join its Microbiology team at the Sutton site. This is a strong opportunity for someone interested in laboratory medicine and keen to build experience in a specialist environment supporting oncology patients.
The Microbiology service is central to the care of immunocompromised cancer patients, providing accurate diagnostic support that helps clinicians make timely treatment decisions. You will be part of a welcoming team focused on safe, effective and patient-centred laboratory work.
The Trust is internationally recognised for innovation, research and high standards in cancer care. It employs more than 4,500 people across clinical, scientific, radiography, pharmacy, therapy, finance and administrative roles, with sites in Chelsea, Sutton and a Medical Daycare Unit in Kingston Hospital.
What you will do
In this post, you will carry out routine support duties for Biomedical Scientists in the Blood Sciences laboratories, working to Standard Operating Procedures. Your work will include receiving, organising and handling samples so that they are processed quickly and appropriately, including specimens tested on site as well as those sent to external laboratories.
Learning and development
The department encourages ongoing learning and professional growth. There is the possibility of working towards an HCPC registration portfolio after 12 months, subject to eligibility and completion of bench rotation.
Working environment
You will join a supportive, friendly and high-performing department with clear opportunities for flexible working across different areas and specialities. The Trust also welcomes flexible working requests from the point of hire in order to help staff maintain a healthy work-life balance.
About The Royal Marsden
