Job description
Role overview
An opportunity has arisen within the Adult Clinical Psychology Service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The service delivers evidence-based psychological therapies across Gwent in South Wales, covering five boroughs with community mental health team provision, secondary mental health services, and liaison/inpatient support practitioners.
The appointed person will assist with psychological assessment and intervention for community-based psychology services. The role includes travel throughout Gwent and involves work completed under the direction and supervision of qualified clinical psychologists in secondary care.
What you will do
You will contribute to psychological assessment and intervention work, including individual assessments, group-based therapy, and multidisciplinary liaison activity.
Key duties include carrying out delegated psychological interventions, helping clinical psychologists with teaching and training, supporting research, service evaluation and audit activity, undertaking literature searches when requested, assisting with the implementation of the Borough DBT service, and carrying out additional duties agreed with the clinical psychology team.
Person requirements
This post calls for someone who can work effectively within a professional team, communicate well with colleagues from different disciplines, and build sensitive working relationships with people experiencing acute or long-term mental and physical health conditions.
You should be able to apply psychological theory and research in practical settings, communicate clearly in both speech and writing, organise your own workload, and use supervision appropriately to agree and review goals.
Experience in a healthcare environment is required, along with the ability to use a range of IT tools such as statistical software, graphics packages, and databases. Welsh language ability is desirable, though English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Qualifications and knowledge
A good honours degree in Psychology is essential, with either a First or Second Class classification. You must also be eligible for Graduate Membership of the BPS. Postgraduate training in areas such as professional psychology, mental health practice, or research design and analysis is desirable.
Additional information
The organisation encourages applications from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates, as well as members of the Armed Forces Community. Candidates may submit applications in Welsh, and Welsh-language applications will be treated no less favourably than English-language applications.
If you need any adjustments or support to take part in the application or selection process, you are encouraged to contact the hiring manager named in the advert. You do not need to share personal or medical information; simply explain what support would help. Larger-font documents or alternative formats such as braille can be requested through the recruiting manager or the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.
If shortlisted, you will be contacted via the email address used in your application. Any offer and information pack will be sent by email. The vacancy may close early, and it can also be withdrawn if it is filled through internal redeployment, so early application is recommended.
