Job description

Overview

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for executing a broad array of tasks involving mechanical installation, repairs, and upkeep of machinery, equipment, and fixtures to guarantee optimal functionality with minimal downtime. All tasks must align with EHS standards, emphasizing continuous enhancement.

Key Duties

  • Respond promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns and carry out scheduled maintenance with limited supervision to minimize production interruptions.
  • Assess mechanical job requirements accurately and select appropriate tools and equipment to complete assignments efficiently.
  • Execute all maintenance activities compliant with safety protocols and operational standards of the plant.
  • Utilize SAP or similar computerized maintenance systems for spare parts ordering and maintain comprehensive records of maintenance performed.
  • Identify recurrent equipment failures, propose, and implement modifications to address underlying issues.
  • Report any irregularities and initiate repair, replacement, testing, or assembly of defective components, ensuring work areas remain clean post-maintenance.
  • Undertake welding and fabrication tasks as required.
  • Guide and train newly hired mechanics, imparting necessary plant and equipment knowledge for effective maintenance work.
  • Engage actively in safety and performance improvement initiatives, including Suggestion Scheme, 5S, Hazard Reporting, and TAMAHAL/PEER activities.
  • Support other teams in troubleshooting and repairing machinery issues.
  • Document maintenance activities, work orders, and staffing information in maintenance management platforms.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance inspections and checklists daily according to maintenance schedules.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisors or technicians as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma in a relevant mechanical field.
  • Completion of PEC Craft Training preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant mechanical experience in heavy industry post-Diploma, or no experience required if PEC training is completed.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, manuals, and instructions.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools and strong computer literacy, especially in SAP or similar systems.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Experience with equipment installation and troubleshooting.
