Instrumentation Technician - Energy (Jubail, KSA; UAE-Based Pool)

Job Overview

The role entails diagnosing, repairing, re-commissioning, and maintaining field instrumentation linked to gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, and desalination plants along with their auxiliary systems. The objective is to enhance operational efficiency and minimize downtime of equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to field instrumentation failures and scheduled maintenance tasks within power and desalination plants, operating with minimal supervision.
• Evaluate technical requirements of tasks and select appropriate tools and equipment to complete them effectively.
• Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to order spares from inventory and keep detailed records of all maintenance activities.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and plant operational standards throughout maintenance processes.
• Report recurrent faults and contribute to root cause failure analyses to find optimal resolutions.
• Deliver on-the-job training to junior craftsmen, equipping them with skills necessary for planned maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum education: Higher secondary certificate or diploma.
• Experience working in power or desalination plants, particularly in maintenance and calibration of field instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow devices.
• Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic valve actuators, CO2 fire suppression, and infrared gas detection systems.
• Capable of operating under pressure, with awareness of risks and consequences related to errors in a power station environment.
• Flexibility to work shifts and be available on call for emergency breakdown interventions.
• Commitment to staying updated with advancing control technologies.
• Able to work in harsh conditions including hot, dirty environments and at heights.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manuals.
• Knowledge of electrical, electronic, computer-based, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment operation and maintenance.

Additional Information

This role demands high safety consciousness and technical proficiency due to the critical nature of plant operations. The technician must handle emergency callouts and participate in shift rotations as required.
