Overview
Join the Materials Engineering team at Tesla Engineering Germany GmbH as a Materials Engineer focusing on thermoplastics and composite materials. This role involves a 1-year fixed-term contract based in Berlin, aimed at pioneering innovative materials and manufacturing processes that enhance Tesla's vehicle designs by reducing costs and improving quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prototype advanced thermoplastic and composite materials alongside developing new processing methods to support future vehicle models.
- Advise Design Engineers by critically evaluating materials and processing options to ensure optimal choices are made.
- Analyze and interpret materials testing data using techniques such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, rheometry, mechanical testing, and environmental aging. Correlate processing methods, material structures, and properties to guide engineering decisions.
- Create and revise specifications and test methods for procurement and manufacturing quality assurance including establishing acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve material-related challenges effectively.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience in materials engineering or a similar position.
- Comprehensive understanding of polymer process-structure-property relationships and familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, compression molding, extrusion, and thermoforming. Experience with simulation software like Moldflow, Sigmasoft, LS-Dyna, or ANSYS is advantageous.
- Proven practical skills in materials characterization and testing, with keen insight into their accuracy and constraints. Experience working directly with thermoplastics processing equipment is beneficial.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects effectively, prioritize tasks, and work independently to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate knowledge sharing, build supplier relationships, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
