Role Overview
In the position of Mass Communication Specialist, you will play a vital role in capturing and conveying the Navy's narrative across various platforms. Your responsibilities will include crafting engaging multimedia content, managing relationships with media outlets, and supporting strategic communications. The role offers opportunities for worldwide travel, documenting military actions, and spearheading significant media campaigns that spotlight Navy personnel achievements. Success requires creativity, strong communication, and the capacity to work effectively under pressure to ensure timely and precise communication.
Key Duties
- Create diverse multimedia outputs such as print materials, videos, photography, digital design, web content, news articles, blogs, and press releases to highlight Navy programs and achievements.
- Operate and maintain advanced photographic and videographic equipment to produce high-quality visual media suited for multiple channels.
- Research and analyze target audiences to deliver insights and recommendations that inform communication strategies.
- Identify communication hurdles and develop innovative solutions to improve public engagement.
- Collaborate with local news outlets to distribute stories and coordinate PR initiatives that enhance the Navy’s public profile.
- Organize and lead tours aboard ships and bases for key visitors, including foreign dignitaries and media personnel.
- Support Public Affairs Officers and senior communication specialists to achieve communication goals.
- Advise commanders on media protocols, prepare them for press events, and help devise messaging tactics to maintain coherent communication.
- Develop content plans and data-driven narratives that advance Navy initiatives and public comprehension.
- Serve as an official representative during media interviews, maintaining consistency with organizational messaging and objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong foundation in communication, journalism, media production, or affiliated disciplines.
- Desirable experience in photography, videography, graphic design, and digital media creation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with advanced multimedia tools and equipment.
- Creativity, meticulous attention to detail, and strong collaboration skills.
- Proactive demeanor, adaptability, and the capacity to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Typically a high school diploma or equivalent; additional college coursework or certifications in media/communications are advantageous.
- Must hold U.S. citizenship and be eligible for necessary security clearances.
