Role Overview

We are looking for a creative and skilled Mass Communication Specialist to join the Public Affairs team of the U.S. Navy. This role focuses on storytelling that effectively conveys the Navy’s objectives, accomplishments, and principles to both public and internal audiences. Responsibilities include creating captivating visual content, producing engaging multimedia narratives, and managing media relations to strengthen the Navy’s public profile. The position offers global travel opportunities to document military operations and spearhead high-profile media campaigns showcasing Navy personnel’s dedication and professionalism. The ideal candidate combines a passion for narrative, creative flair, and the ability to thrive in dynamic and high-pressure settings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; advanced studies in communications, journalism, media production, or related disciplines are preferred.
  • Skilled in photography, videography, and creating multimedia content.
  • Experience with digital editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects) is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Competent in operating and maintaining professional-grade photography and video equipment.
  • Strong research and analysis capabilities to pinpoint audiences and assess campaign success.
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments.
  • Prepared to travel widely and adjust to diverse operational conditions.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Create print publications and diverse multimedia materials including videos, photos, digital graphics, and web products that effectively narrate Navy programs and stories.
  • Manage and troubleshoot advanced photo and video technology to ensure top-tier content creation.
  • Research target messages and audiences; provide strategic input for communication campaigns.
  • Use data and media analytics to measure communication effectiveness and refine approaches accordingly.
  • Identify internal communication challenges and devise innovative solutions to boost public and internal engagement.
  • Collaborate with local and national media to share stories, coordinate interviews, and maintain positive media relations.
  • Organize ship and base tours for notable visitors such as foreign dignitaries and government officials, ensuring professional representation.
  • Support Public Affairs Officers and senior specialists in media management, press events, and crisis responses.
  • Design content strategies aligned with Navy mandates to create compelling, data-driven narratives highlighting successes.
  • Act as a Navy representative in public speaking roles with the press, articulating key messages with confidence and professionalism.
  • Stay updated on media trends and communication technologies to continually improve outreach impact.
