Job description
Role overview
Pan Macmillan is hiring a full-time, permanent Marketing Executive to join the Communications team within Macmillan Children’s Books, based in London. This is a hands-on opportunity for a resourceful marketer who is commercially aware, well organised and excited by the children’s publishing sector. The role supports the Head of Marketing and the Senior Brand Marketing Manager across a range of lists, with a focus on high-impact campaigns for leading Middle Grade and YA titles and brands.
About the team
Macmillan Children’s Books is part of Pan Macmillan and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading children’s publishers. The division publishes acclaimed, bestselling and award-winning authors and illustrators, and its communications team works closely with sales, editorial, design, authors, agents and external partners in the UK and internationally. The team is collaborative, inventive and focused on creating campaigns that inspire children to read.
What you will do
In this position, you will help plan and deliver backlist and brand-led campaigns for prominent Middle Grade and YA authors and brands, including InvestiGators, Marcus Rashford, Lennry Henry, MG Leonard, Tomi Adeyemi, Liz Pichon and others.
Core responsibilities
- Partner with the marketing team to build and execute creative, audience-led direct-to-consumer campaigns across fiction and non-fiction lists, including First Ink, Rocket Fox and graphic novels.
- Create engaging copy for marketing materials such as proofs, social posts, adverts and other promotional assets.
- Coordinate with digital, trade marketing and publicity teams to ensure campaigns are joined up and delivered smoothly.
- Keep internal and external stakeholders informed, including sales and editorial teams, brand owners and licensees.
- Manage content for social channels across multiple platforms and support briefs for digital advertising.
- Work with designers to produce strong marketing assets and supporting materials.
- Collaborate with media agencies on campaign activity and help build productive relationships with influencers to extend title reach.
What you need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you should bring a genuine enthusiasm for children’s books and the publishing industry, along with practical experience in a busy direct-to-consumer marketing environment. Strong written and verbal communication is essential, as is the ability to work accurately, professionally and collaboratively.
You will also need to be imaginative, proactive and open to testing new approaches. The team values people who can generate fresh ideas, work efficiently, and explore emerging tools and technologies such as AI to improve processes. Experience with MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Workspace, Canva and Biblio is important. The role also calls for a commitment to diverse representation, inclusive working practices, curiosity, integrity and a team-first approach.
Desirable experience
Experience with family brands or media properties would be an added advantage.
Pay and benefits
The salary for this role is £30,000. This position comes with a competitive benefits package and the chance to work on varied, high-profile projects in a supportive environment.
- 28 days of annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus bank holidays
- Generous pension provision
- Discounted private medical insurance or a health cash plan
- Group income protection cover
- Enhanced family pay and leave
- Flexible hours and summer hours, including an early Friday finish during the summer months
- Two volunteer days each year
- 75% discount on Pan Macmillan books and access to regular staff book sales at heavily reduced prices
- Season ticket loan or advance
- Cycle to work scheme
- Shopping and gym membership discounts, plus Christmas club savings
- Free breakfast every day and a monthly company lunch
