Job description

About the Company

Visa is a global payments technology company that helps move money between consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and public sector organizations in more than 200 countries and territories. Its purpose is to make paying and getting paid easier for everyone, everywhere.

At Visa, you get the chance to contribute to work with wide-reaching impact, take on important challenges, build your expertise, and see your work make a difference around the world. This role is an opportunity to do meaningful work for your community and beyond.

Role Overview

The Marketing Director for Ghana will own the country marketing strategy, planning, and execution, working closely with internal teams and external partners to make sure marketing priorities are aligned with business goals. This position reports to the Head of Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa.

The role is responsible for guiding local marketing teams and agency partnerships to improve Visa’s performance across revenue, transaction growth, payment volume, market share, PCE penetration, and merchant acceptance in both physical and digital payment environments.

The role will also shape major marketing programs that support payment volume growth in Ghana, product platforms, cross-border business, and sponsorship and promotional activity, with emphasis on strategic platforms such as Premium and Cross-border. It will oversee country marketing spending, prioritize initiatives against business needs, and help drive profit and revenue.

Another key part of the role is to strengthen the value Visa marketing delivers to clients, including issuers and merchants, with a focus on Value Added Services and value-in-kind marketing. The position also calls for delivering strong creative output, creating cost efficiencies, and measuring results against defined KPIs such as MROI.

This role requires building effective working relationships across clients, country leadership, sales, product, acceptance, and hub/global marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct cluster and country marketing programs and investments, making sure plans and implementations are assessed and prioritized against commercial and marketing goals.
  • Shape and roll out strategic marketing and communications plans that meet business and marketing needs.
  • Review marketing initiatives for both marketing and business impact.
  • Continue only those campaigns and initiatives that demonstrate strong effectiveness.
  • Lead market research work in the region and propose new studies that can improve marketing planning and program development.
  • Analyze payment trends, market opportunities, and cardholder behavior, and use the findings to make recommendations for future strategy.
  • Track competitor activity to identify opportunities and potential risks to the business.
  • Manage regional budgets and ensure all activity stays within budget and follows company rules and policies.
  • Evaluate local marketing activity against key performance indicators, including MROI.
  • Serve as brand guardian for Visa and ensure all communications follow regional and global brand standards.
  • Negotiate and finalize agreements with external partners.
  • Oversee agency relationships and ensure efficient delivery of agreed work.
  • Lead the briefing process for creative and media agencies while protecting Visa’s brand and values.
  • Review and assess all agency output.
  • Ensure agencies meet their contractual commitments.
  • Provide marketing advisory support to client banks to help them achieve their business objectives.
  • Lead the creation and execution of client co-op marketing strategies and plans.
  • Recommend effective ways for clients to reach business and marketing goals using marketing value-added services and campaign execution.
  • Gain client support and participation in Visa marketing initiatives.
  • Lead the activation of Visa sponsorship properties.
  • Create and implement local sponsorship strategies and plans.
  • Increase Visa’s value through marketing incentive funding by delivering value-added and value-in-kind solutions for clients.
  • Support the growth of the Ghana marketing team through coaching, guidance, and formal training plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders at global, regional hub, and country levels.
  • Manage budget allocation and reporting in line with Visa Inc. procedures.

Experience and Competencies

  • More than 15 years of senior marketing experience in fast-moving consumer goods, banking or financial services, or high-tech industries.
  • Experience leading marketing at a global and/or regional level across multiple channels and business lines.
  • Proven success managing external agencies and producing effective integrated campaign materials.
  • Strong commercial understanding and experience managing P&L responsibility.
  • Leadership strength with the ability to inspire, guide, and motivate a team.
  • Highly analytical and strategic, with the ability to work with quantitative models.
  • Broad experience across marketing channels, including social and digital.
  • Creative thinking with the ability to turn insights into practical ideas.
  • Ability to influence across a matrixed organization and build relationships that lead to timely solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including executive briefings and large presentations.
  • Comfort working across cultures and in multicultural environments.
  • Strong negotiation capability.
  • Good relationship-management skills for partnership-based work.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-changing environment.
