Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator at the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) plays a pivotal role in shaping narratives surrounding equity and inclusion, managing both internal and external communications. This position is responsible for enhancing OEI’s engagement with the community through strategic messaging, social media management, media relations, and educational programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Articulate the administration’s principles on equity and inclusion clearly across all communication channels.
- Create and distribute various media formats including written content, videos, and audio presentations to inform and educate stakeholders and the general public.
- Maintain community awareness of OEI’s efforts, especially focusing on racial equity and workforce diversity initiatives within Albuquerque.
- Disseminate information regarding civil rights, consumer financial protections, and support for immigrant, refugee, African American, Asian and Pacific Islander, Native American communities, and LGBTQ initiatives.
- Manage media relations for the department, guiding community and media engagement efforts and crafting marketing campaigns.
- Design and conduct training sessions and workshops to promote the office’s values and inclusive outreach objectives.
- Address and counter misinformation that contradicts OEI values.
- Support city-wide strategic and crisis communication initiatives.
- Serve as the official spokesperson for OEI when needed at media and community events.
- Oversee OEI’s social media platforms and contribute to website content development.
- Develop a comprehensive communications strategy and implement weekly content dissemination through owned and earned media.
- Coordinate an editorial calendar collaboratively with the Mayor’s communications team and other city departments.
- Prepare printed marketing assets such as brochures and flyers; manage email marketing distribution lists.
- Attend professional meetings to stay informed about trends and innovations in communications and equity.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communication, marketing, or a related field from an accredited university.
- A minimum of four years of professional experience in marketing, community outreach, media relations, journalism, public relations, communication, training, facilitation, public speaking, writing, or multimedia production, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License by the date of hire, and acquire a City Operator’s Permit within six months of hire.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Working Environment
- This is a remote position operating primarily within an office environment.
- Extended periods of sitting or standing may be required due to the nature of the work.
