The company has a long-standing commitment to local sourcing in East Africa and currently sources more than 80% of its agricultural raw materials locally. It works with communities and partners across supply chains and is looking to strengthen opportunities in areas such as cassava. The role sits in Nairobi within the Africa Center of Excellence and will own end-to-end accountability for the local sourcing strategy and its execution, while also contributing to wider Africa sourcing and procurement strategy.

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for steering the design and delivery of the local sourcing strategy in East Africa. The role requires close collaboration with internal leaders and external stakeholders, including senior management, the source center of excellence, farmers, government bodies, policymakers, and value chain partners.

The role also leads development of core supply chains for sorghum, barley, maize, and cassava, with accountability for project design and implementation in collaboration with in-market and above-market leadership teams, as well as private and non-profit partners.

Role Complexity

This position forms part of the governance structure for local raw material sourcing strategy and execution in East Africa and is accountable for delivering key business objectives for the region.

• It works closely with the Head of Procurement, Market Supply Chain Directors, CR Directors, Heads of Procurement, and the Africa Source Center of Excellence to ensure strong strategy design and execution.
• It partners across functions and with leadership teams to build and implement a local sourcing strategy that supports affordable and sustainable supply chains for essential raw materials.
• It collaborates with the Head of Procurement and Source CoE leaders to identify and roll out partnerships and new business models that create value across markets.

Leadership Responsibilities

The role is expected to lead the creation and delivery of strong local raw material strategies for the business. It will work closely with executive and functional teams to ensure the strategies are practical, relevant to the market, and executed with discipline and speed.

It will also represent the business in discussions with senior government officials and senior leaders from partner organizations in both the private and non-profit sectors.

Top Accountabilities

• Develop and execute the five-year local raw materials strategy, with immediate focus on building a sustainable sourcing model for sorghum, barley, and cassava.
• Support supply chain continuity and growth across Africa local raw materials operations in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead the Africa agribusiness team and guide the design and delivery of cross-cutting initiatives across different markets and geographies.
• Own team leadership, including motivation, management, and performance delivery.
• Drive implementation of the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy so that it is effectively adapted and applied to business needs.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience building and executing local sourcing strategies with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across multiple locations.
• Strong leadership presence with persuasive communication and stakeholder influence skills.
• Sound commercial judgement and a track record of achieving clear financial outcomes.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in any technical discipline.
• Strong understanding of agricultural supply chains.
• Knowledge of quality, risk management, environmental, and safety standards would be an advantage.
• An established network of contacts in government and business within agribusiness development is desirable.
