Job description
Role overview
This contract role is for a Marine Specialist based offshore in Qatar. The position supports marine assurance, compliance, and operational governance across project marine spreads to help ensure safe and efficient offshore activities.
Key accountabilities
The role involves carrying out marine assurance and governance activities, including inspections and verification checks on project marine spreads. You will confirm the validity of documentation for marine units, crews, and personnel in line with international standards, company rules, and project requirements.
You will review and monitor certifications for marine units and crew, maintain traceability of compliance records, and keep documentation updated so that mandatory credentials do not lapse. The role also includes supporting assurance reporting, KPI tracking, and regulatory compliance monitoring for project documentation.
Additional duties include visiting marine units for inspections, supporting incident investigations, managing mechanical breakdown and fit-for-service processes, and helping with emergency readiness, safety campaigns, and welfare initiatives onboard. You will also contribute to hazard identification, risk assessments, technical reviews, and readiness sessions, while coordinating with the EPC contractor marine team to keep assurance requirements aligned.
The position also acts as the PMT marine representative onboard project marine units, helping ensure technical goals are achieved within approved procedures and that interfaces between PMT, site PMT, MWS, contractors, and marine crews are handled effectively.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in sciences, marine disciplines, or engineering is preferred, or alternatively a diploma in marine or nautical disciplines. STCW II/1 and STCW III/1 certification are required.
Experience
You should have 8 years of experience in marine operations.
Technical and business skills
The role calls for knowledge of national and international maritime and shipping regulations, strong operational and technical marine expertise, and hands-on experience with offshore marine units in the oil and gas sector. Familiarity with complex marine activities such as offshore installation, construction vessels, barges, heavy lifts, transportation, pipe and cable laying, jack-up accommodation barges, and dive support vessels is important.
Strong written and spoken English, good interpersonal and communication abilities, teamwork, and confidence working within a PMT are essential. The role also requires regular use of office software and technical applications.
