Job description
Role overview
This fixed-term night-shift role sits within the production team in Tuam, County Galway. The technician will help keep production running efficiently by supporting overall equipment efficiency (OEE) and total line rejects (TLR) targets, while also ensuring planned preventive maintenance is completed on time.
Key responsibilities
- Work in line with all Valeo safety rules, including PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, emergency response involvement where needed, safe machine condition, and protection of equipment safety features.
- Back up production operations so that OEE and TLR targets remain on track.
- Act quickly when unscheduled stoppages or defective-product issues arise.
- Describe, record, and communicate problems clearly using the 5W2H method.
- Put temporary containment measures in place to restore production of conforming parts, then support permanent corrective actions.
- Follow the line QRQC quick response quality control standard and use the escalation process when required.
- Identify root causes through structured troubleshooting, logical analysis, and use of manuals, schematics, and other technical references.
- Fix faults and restore equipment to proper operation.
- Record all equipment downtime and produce downtime reports for each shift.
- Contribute to the total productive maintenance process.
- Track and communicate all spare parts used, including any issues related to parts availability or consumption.
- Work with the spare parts technician to improve inventory levels, reduce cost, and rationalise suppliers.
- Share information effectively across shifts and with the relevant teams.
- Ensure thorough shift handovers at both the start and end of each shift.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled and keep PM records updated.
- Make sure required spares and consumables for PM work are available in stock.
- Maintain 5S standards in both the production area and the technician workspace.
- Escalate equipment performance concerns to the appropriate engineers.
- Support projects aimed at improving process and equipment performance.
- Assist with reducing setup and changeover times.
- Train and support other technicians when needed.
- Carry out additional duties flexibly if requested by the company.
Education and training
A Certificate or Diploma in Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is required. On-the-job training will also be provided.
Useful technical training and exposure include Agilent i5000 ICT platforms, GPIB/RS232/PCIO interfaces, C++, Windows and UNIX programming, automotive communication protocols such as K-Line, CAN and LIN, SMT, Deprag auto screw insertion, pneumatic control systems, and automotive electronics manufacturing standards.
Experience
The role calls for 2 to 3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally within electronics. Candidates should also have practical knowledge of in-circuit and functional testing, along with a strong background in PC-based testing, including software and hardware installation.
