Manufacturing Equipment Engineer - General Assembly at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg

About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineering team at Tesla Berlin-Brandenburg is dedicated to pioneering advanced assembly lines and automated cells. This group constructs high-tech production lines that empower operations to manufacture vehicles with outstanding quality and throughput in a safe, ergonomic setting. The General Assembly team is recruiting a Manufacturing Engineer focused on supporting operational scaling and expanding product variants. This role involves specifying and commissioning equipment alongside establishing and optimizing process parameters. The successful candidate collaborates with cross-functional internal teams, external vendors, and technology partners to drive process development from prototyping to production rollout.

Key Responsibilities

• Design manufacturing equipment including conveyors, lift-assist devices, jigs, fixtures, and trolleys.
• Develop precise equipment specifications and requirements aligned with product constraints.
• Prepare Requests for Quotations and provide 3D design solutions and technical direction.
• Lead design reviews and guide vendors on modifications and compliance.
• Manage suppliers through all project phases ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical teams, project managers, manufacturing representatives, and other stakeholders.
• Engage with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms during bids and project execution to ensure adherence to Tesla's engineering standards.
• Support on-site construction and equipment commissioning by being the technical point of contact and resolving issues in real time.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers, and functional owners to facilitate project activities and troubleshoot concerns.
• Draft qualification protocols and oversee equipment qualification tasks.
• Produce and maintain comprehensive validation documentation for equipment.

Candidate Profile and Skills

• Fluency in both English and German languages.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent experience with demonstrable expertise.
• At least five years of industry experience in technology-focused environments utilizing automated assembly methods.
• Background in industrial engineering related to high-volume assembly operations.
• Strong experience in designing automated manufacturing equipment.
• Proficient in CAD software for mechanical equipment, fixture, and tooling design (SolidWorks preferred; Catia skills are advantageous).
• Comprehensive understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Skilled in 2D AutoCAD drafting and developing detailed fabrication drawings for techniques such as CNC or manual machining, welding, and sheet metal forming.
• Expertise in mechanical assembly practices including press fits and fastener selection.
• Experienced in integrating new equipment and processes into manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with automated equipment systems like robotic handling, vision systems, material conveyance, PLC programming, and human-machine interfaces.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
