Job description
Role overview
The Chicago Bulls are hiring a Manager for the People & Culture team to help shape a strong employee experience throughout the entire talent journey. This position centers on recruiting, onboarding, early-career programming, and people analytics, with the goal of attracting, engaging, and retaining high-caliber talent across the organization.
As an individual contributor, you will manage end-to-end hiring for full-time and game-day positions while building talent pipelines and ensuring a polished candidate journey. You will also own the Bulls’ Rookie Program, a season-long internship experience that supports a cohort of 20+ interns.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable building relationships, and skilled in project management and HR generalist work, especially recruiting operations and onboarding. Success in this role requires sound judgment, the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment, and the confidence to handle confidential information with care.
This opportunity is designed for someone who can improve core talent programs, strengthen hiring and onboarding processes, and use data to support People & Culture strategy and broader organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary contact for employees and hiring managers, helping ensure an inclusive and positive experience across the candidate and employee lifecycle.
- Lead all stages of recruiting for open positions, with a focus on delivering a smooth, high-quality candidate experience.
- Maintain visibility over all active openings, including status, timelines, and hiring activity.
- Build and execute hiring approaches that match business needs, including proactive sourcing and pipeline creation.
- Review recruiting data such as time-to-fill, conversion rates, and process slowdowns, then turn findings into practical recommendations.
- Work closely with hiring managers and other stakeholders to support timely and effective hiring decisions.
- Act as the go-to resource for recruiting systems and processes such as background checks, interview platforms, and assessments.
- Share insights with People & Culture leadership to improve attraction, hiring outcomes, and retention.
- Own the onboarding experience for full-time and game-day employees and keep it consistent, welcoming, and effective.
- Create and maintain onboarding materials for managers, including calendars, checklists, and training content.
- Look for ways to make onboarding more efficient, more consistent, and more impactful.
- Collect and interpret new hire feedback to identify improvements that support engagement and retention.
- Prepare quarterly updates for People & Culture leadership using new hire surveys, exit interviews, and other employee feedback sources.
- Manage every part of the Chicago Bulls Rookie Program, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, communications, and engagement.
- Partner with Learning & Development to deliver programming that builds key workplace and professional skills.
- Arrange guest speakers and other industry exposure opportunities to broaden intern learning.
- Create networking opportunities across the sports industry.
- Oversee the “Bull By Your Side” mentorship program, including pairings, structure, and ongoing support.
- Regularly assess program effectiveness and make improvements to increase engagement and impact.
Requirements
- Highly organized, relationship-oriented professional with strong project management skills and the ability to build effective processes while supporting a strong employee experience.
- 4–5 years of full-time experience in Human Resources.
- Prior experience in an HR Generalist or similarly broad HR role preferred.
- Strong background in high-volume recruiting and talent acquisition.
- Hands-on experience with HR systems and Applicant Tracking Systems.
- Comfort using HRIS platforms and HR technology for reporting and analytics.
- Strong analytical ability with the skill to turn data into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience working with reports, spreadsheets, and web-based tools.
- Exposure to internship or early-career program support is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced ability with Microsoft 365 tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and time management, with the ability to manage overlapping priorities.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Good judgment and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Compensation and benefits
The base pay for this role is $65,000 to $75,000 per year, plus an annual discretionary bonus. Final compensation will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market alignment.
Benefits for full-time employees include healthcare, dental, and vision coverage; 100% employer-paid basic life insurance and disability coverage; a 401(k) with company match and an annual discretionary contribution; flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care; commuter benefits; paid time off for vacation, sick time, holidays, days of significance, and parental leave; complimentary home game tickets, parking, and gym access; complimentary snacks and meals when working games or events; and pet insurance.
