Job description
Role Overview and Responsibilities
Join the Office of the Dean of Students as a Manager dedicated to fostering student leadership and enhancing community service initiatives. This role supports the mission of providing transformative experiences through community service, cultivating active citizenship among students both locally and internationally.
- Mentor student leaders on local and overseas projects, using Service-Learning frameworks including needs analysis and asset mapping to ensure meaningful and sustainable community service.
- Develop and launch new projects targeting unmet community needs by partnering with non-profit organizations and student groups to strengthen community capacities.
- Facilitate reflective practices for students to articulate and internalize their learning from service experiences.
- Oversee and approve student volunteering proposals ensuring alignment with community service goals and outcomes.
- Guide students through achieving required community service outcomes and source relevant volunteer opportunities and partnerships.
- Collaborate with partner organizations to refine projects aimed at improving student learning and fostering sustainable community impact, particularly aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
- Work closely with internal communications and external agencies to boost visibility of student initiatives and community impact, including managing collateral production such as videos and print materials.
- Co-organize the annual Community Service Fair to promote volunteerism and highlight social issues, showcasing opportunities from community partners and student-led projects.
- Partner with SMU's Office of Advancement to develop projects and platforms that engage donors, leveraging resources including funds, expertise, and networks to support community needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the team.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possess a degree with 5 to 7 years of experience in social service, non-profit, community development, or higher education sectors.
- Demonstrated expertise in Student Development, Service-Learning, and Community Engagement is mandatory.
- Proven skills in managing projects from initial concept through execution and evaluation.
- Exemplary organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
- High sense of accountability and autonomy, managing multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills adept at relating with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and innovative in approach.
- Existing networks in the community service sector are advantageous.
- Familiarity with basic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is expected.
- Willingness to occasionally work beyond standard office hours.
