Job Overview
The School of Hospitality Administration (SHA) at Boston University seeks a dedicated Manager of Academic Advising to provide comprehensive guidance to both undergraduate and graduate students. This crucial role combines personalized academic advising with oversight of registrar-related operations, supporting student success through close collaboration with program chairs, faculty, and university offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer tailored academic advising addressing degree requirements, curriculum planning, registration, and student success strategies for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Develop individualized educational plans aligned with students' academic and career aspirations.
- Clarify university and school policies related to academics and graduation criteria.
- Track student progress proactively, identifying and assisting those needing additional support.
- Guide students on internships, study abroad opportunities, minors, electives, and experiential learning.
- Maintain thorough advising records using institutional systems like MyBU Student.
- Manage registrar functions including curriculum updates, grade changes, registration issues, and compliance with academic regulations.
- Coordinate and support orientation, commencement, student success programs, and student organization initiatives.
- Serve as SHA's representative on university-wide advising committees and carry out additional assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.
- At least two years of progressive experience in academic advising, registrar operations, or related higher education administration roles.
- Preferred experience advising at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Familiarity with student information systems, academic policy interpretation, curriculum management, and FERPA compliance.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage projects effectively.
- Sound judgement and discretion in handling confidential student data.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering student success and embracing inclusive advising approaches.
- Ability to collaborate across diverse university departments and with faculty, staff, and students.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and eagerness to learn additional enterprise systems.
Compensation and Employment Details
- Full-time, regular position based in Boston, MA.
- Salary range: $62,525 to $70,000 annually, determined by qualifications and experience.
