Job description
Role Overview
Penguin Random House's Online & Digital Sales division is seeking a Manager for National Accounts to stimulate and manage sales growth. This pivotal and dynamic position involves overseeing daily operations of account activities, boosting sales, aligning forecasts, maintaining inventory health, discovering opportunities in both frontlist and backlist titles, and fostering robust relationships with account stakeholders and internal publishing teams.
Responsibilities
- Drive sales expansion across assigned online and digital accounts by handling title-specific opportunities, monitoring orders, promoting reorders, and uncovering growth potential in frontlist and backlist.
- Oversee forecasting, inventory status, availability, replenishment, preorder preparedness, and inventory requisites for assigned titles/accounts, collaborating with inventory, operations, and sales leads to ensure strong in-stock levels and resolve issues.
- Execute and analyze regular sales and inventory reports to track account performance, detect risks and opportunities, manage stock levels, and aid in account planning.
- Manage daily account interactions including communication with contacts, pursuing title opportunities, coordinating needs, and implementing sales priorities.
- Develop and support merchandising, sales, promotion, and seasonal presentations using account insights, title familiarity, inventory, and data to suggest opportunities.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with editorial, marketing, publicity, inventory, operations, analytics, and finance teams to communicate account priorities and synchronize on sales opportunities, inventory needs, and title strategies.
- Relate timely, relevant account-specific information internally including updates, performance metrics, promotional prospects, inventory requisites, risks, market trends, and initiatives.
- Monitor account progress toward sales targets, forecasts, promotional and seasonal plans, furnishing regular updates and suggestions to sales leadership and publishing collaborators.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings representing account interests and digital retail opportunities.
- Keep abreast of online retail trends, account initiatives, competition, consumer patterns, and digital merchandising to inform sales tactics.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in publishing sales or related fields with direct account engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of publishing products and operations.
- Proficient in crafting clear, persuasive, data-driven sales presentations.
- Highly organized with the capability to juggle multiple projects, deadlines, titles, and account requirements.
- Strong analytical capabilities to generate reports, analyze data, identify patterns, and communicate key insights.
- Proactive problem solver who adapts quickly and follows through within a changing environment.
- Self-motivated team player comfortable working collaboratively.
- Interest in and understanding of online retail, digital publishing, and book market trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Additional Information
This hybrid role entails office work 2-3 days per week at 1745 Broadway, New York, and candidates from nearby commuting regions including NJ and CT will be considered.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual salary range: $73,500 to $83,500.
- Eligibility for annual profit awards or bonuses, contingent on company performance.
