Job description
Role overview
The Client Due Diligence Business Advisory and Support team serves as a 1.5 line of defense and acts as a link between the business teams and the control/support functions. In this position, you will support Corporate & Institutional Banking and Wealth Management activities on CDD-related matters.
Key focus of the role
This role is centered on account opening checks, periodic reviews, and trigger-based reviews for Wealth Management clients. The work involves assessing client profiles, validating and strengthening source of wealth information, reviewing transaction patterns, and confirming that CDD obligations are completed in line with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and procedures.
You will need to use sound judgment when dealing with complicated client structures and changing risk profiles. The role calls for careful evaluation of documentation gaps, material risk changes, and the need for additional corroboration, safeguards, or escalation.
Core duties
- Carry out CDD reviews for Wealth Management clients during onboarding, periodic review cycles, and trigger events.
- Examine client profiles, ownership and control arrangements, risk ratings, account purpose, expected and actual activity, related parties, adverse media, document validity, source of wealth, and any material changes or risk events.
- Decide whether further information, supporting evidence, risk mitigants, conditions, or escalation to Compliance and senior management is needed.
- Improve source of wealth corroboration and documentation for periodic reviews in line with MAS AML/CFT notices and ACIP best-practice guidance on source of wealth due diligence.
- Apply a risk-based method to determine how deep and broad each review should be, based on client risk, complexity, transaction behaviour, and changes since the last review.
- Use professional judgment where standard records are missing, and assess whether alternatives such as reputable news sources, statutory filings, or professional references are sufficient.
- Draft source of wealth narratives with support from generative AI tools, then validate, refine, and align the output with the client profile and available evidence.
- Analyse transactions to check whether they fit the client profile and stated source of wealth, and identify unusual or unexpected patterns that may require clarification or escalation.
- Work with Front Office teams to close CDD gaps in a way that matches the customer’s risk level.
- Where issues remain unresolved, recommend suitable risk controls and document the rationale clearly for Compliance and senior management review.
- Ensure documents remain current and fit for purpose, and trigger updates when client circumstances change materially.
- Contribute to dashboards, management reporting, and governance updates covering account opening, periodic review, and trigger review outcomes.
- Support AML/CFT in-house surveillance reviews together with business and compliance teams.
- Prepare MIS such as monthly CDD statistics and respond to regulatory AML/CFT surveys.
- Help drive process improvement and digital transformation initiatives aimed at simplifying and automating name screening and review processes.
Experience and skills needed
Minimum 8 years of experience in banking, preferably in Private Banking or Wealth Management KYC/CDD, onboarding, Audit, Risk, or AML. A strong working knowledge of CDD, compliance, and AML processes in the private banking or wealth management environment is required. You should also be familiar with MAS AML/CFT regulations and guidelines.
The role calls for excellent judgment, analytical ability, attention to detail, and accuracy. You should be comfortable working within controls and compliance standards, managing multiple tasks, building relationships, and communicating clearly in verbal, written, and presentation formats. Leadership ability, teamwork, adaptability, initiative, and a resourceful approach are important.
