Role overview

Bluebird Foods Ltd, part of the PepsiCo group, is seeking a hands-on mechanical maintenance technician to support a large snack manufacturing site. The business has been operating in New Zealand for more than 70 years and is known for brands such as Bluebird Originals, Doritos, Copper Kettle, Grain Waves, Twisties, and Cheetos. This position is focused on keeping plant equipment safe, reliable, and efficient through preventative care, fault diagnosis, repairs, and prompt breakdown response.

You will work alongside the Shift Team Leader and the Engineering Lead Team to plan, prioritise, and complete maintenance activities. Job details

  • Work location: Wiri, Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand
  • Shift pattern: rotating alternate weekend roster with Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and Saturday, Sunday, Monday day shifts from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Employment status: permanent full-time role

Key duties

  • Complete planned preventive maintenance and corrective repairs in line with work lists and agreed schedules, while giving accurate updates to the Maintenance Planner.
  • Act quickly on urgent equipment breakdowns and participate in the call-out roster when needed.
  • Use SAP to create work orders, locate and reserve spare parts, document work history, and apply the correct failure codes.
  • Partner with the Shift Team Leader and the broader shift team, assist with handovers, provide progress reports, and oversee subcontractors when required.
  • Take part in failure analysis reviews and support ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental rules, use the correct PPE, comply with OSH procedures, and actively control risks.

Requirements

  • A current Level 4 trade certificate is required, along with a valid New Zealand EWRB practising licence where applicable.
  • Experience in FMCG or process manufacturing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP CMMS is an advantage.
  • Comfortable using MS Office and general computer systems.
  • Strong commitment to safety, environmental care, and quality standards.
  • Clear communication style with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Works well in a team, adapts easily, takes initiative, and remains proactive.
