Role Overview
The AI-Assisted Local News Content Producer position involves researching, drafting, and publishing 16-20 local news articles daily across Patch sites in Massachusetts. The role requires using AI to aid story creation while relying on sound editorial judgment to identify newsworthy topics, verify facts, and craft engaging, SEO-conscious headlines that adhere to Patch's editorial standards. This position is well-suited for independent, detail-oriented individuals who follow local news closely and adapt well to fast-paced digital environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Create 16-20 local news articles per day across multiple Massachusetts Patch websites.
- Leverage AI tools to efficiently generate accurate and engaging content.
- Source newsworthy material from government entities, municipalities, educational institutions, nonprofits, businesses, public meetings, and community groups.
- Monitor social media, local online resources, newsletters, and public records to find original story leads and trends.
- Develop compelling, SEO-optimized headlines for each story.
- Conduct fact-checking to ensure content accuracy and conformity to editorial guidelines.
- Edit and proofread articles following AP Style and ensuring clarity and grammar quality.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field.
- Experience writing for digital platforms, student publications, local news outlets, or similar environments.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading capabilities with solid understanding of AP Style.
- Comfortable utilizing AI and emerging technologies within the editorial process.
- Excellent news judgment to identify compelling local stories independently.
- Creativity and initiative in generating story ideas and working autonomously under deadlines.
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
- Familiarity with social media tools for reporting and news gathering.
- Technologically adept and quick learner of new publishing systems and workflows.
