Job description

Job purpose

Emirates SkyCargo, launched in 1985 as Emirates’ dedicated airfreight arm, is now the world’s largest international cargo airline. The business is expanding its cargo capability and developing specialised offerings to serve growing customer needs, and it is seeking experienced supply chain and logistics professionals to support that growth.

In the Load Master role, you will prepare for flights in advance, confirm that all required arrangements are in place at origin, destination, and any en-route points, and travel with the aircraft on charter or scheduled operations. Your focus will be to keep all ground activities safe, efficient, and fully aligned with Emirates and airport standards and procedures.

Key duties

  • Prepare for each flight by confirming all ground handling arrangements and collecting complete details on the ground handler, airport, and load requirements. Ensure the load is assembled in line with Emirates standards and safety rules.
  • Oversee the Ground Handling Agent to achieve efficient loading and optimal use of space, including special cargo requirements. Produce the loading instruction report and share it with the GHA on time so loading can begin without delay. Make sure unloading is completed safely and efficiently. Confirm that time- and temperature-sensitive cargo, including pharmaceutical shipments, is handled in compliance with European Union Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP) standards.
  • Prepare the aircraft weight and balance documentation, trim sheet, and submit these to the pilot in command. Issue loading and unloading instructions for the aircraft.
  • At destination, obtain the General Declaration, flight plan, and weather information from the Ground Handling Agent and the relevant authorities.
  • Take ownership of flight punctuality and work to maintain strong on-time departure performance. When delays are anticipated, coordinate with the crew and crew hotel so crew call times can be adjusted without affecting duty-time limits.
  • Keep regular contact with Ground Handling Agents, Line Maintenance Engineers, and local airport authorities to support consistently high customer service standards.
  • Evaluate the condition and availability of aircraft loading systems and equipment, work with Engineering for repairs, and identify any operating limits or restrictions until defects are resolved.
  • If grooms are required, ensure every groom is approved and listed for the flight, verify identities before boarding, and work with grooms and crew to determine the best loading positions for special cargo.
  • Perform security checks of the main deck cargo compartment to confirm that no item has been loaded that could compromise aircraft safety. Ensure all pre-flight security and preparation steps are completed in line with the Flight Operations Manual.
  • Conduct dangerous goods inspections connected to aircraft loading and manage any dangerous goods incidents while the aircraft is on the ground. Ensure the correct permits and documentation accompany special cargo types such as AVI and dangerous goods so that clearance issues do not arise at destination or transit stations.

Qualification and experience

Applicants must have at least 5 years of experience in cargo, airline, or ground handling across all functions within a major international airport. A minimum of 12 years of schooling or an equivalent qualification is required.

Candidates should have completed Load Control 1 and 2, Dangerous Goods Acceptance, Aircraft Loading and Handling Training, and Special Cargo Handling, including IATA LAR.

Strong knowledge of local and international customs, immigration, and security regulations is essential, along with demonstrable expertise in Good Distribution Practice (GDP) gained through both training and experience.

The role also requires the ability to work independently with very limited supervision, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal ability, and the capacity to stay effective under pressure.

Salary and benefits

Dubai-based employees receive an attractive tax-free salary and travel benefits, including discounts on flights and hotel stays worldwide.
