Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a junior to mid-level Litigation Lawyer Associate to join a dynamic practice that emphasizes social justice. The role offers a combined litigation and solicitor workload ideal for professionals seeking diverse experience without early specialization, while contributing impactful work daily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a range of litigation cases including Landlord and Tenant Board disputes, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario applications, and Small Claims Court proceedings.
  • Representing clients before tribunals and courts, taking ownership of files with early responsibility.
  • Providing governance advice to charities, not-for-profit organizations, and cooperatives.
  • Handling employment law issues alongside related advisory and litigation tasks.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and advising on commercial and construction contract matters.

Candidate Profile

  • At least 3 to 5 years of call to the Ontario Bar with good standing in the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated experience appearing before administrative tribunals and/or courts is highly valued.
  • Ability to navigate confidently between contentious litigation and advisory responsibilities across various legal domains.
  • Strong skills in drafting, file management, and client engagement, capable of managing cases with minimal oversight.
  • A sincere dedication to social justice issues is highly desirable.

Compensation and Working Conditions

The salary offered ranges from $110,000 to $130,000 annually based on years of call, with potential discretionary bonuses up to 5% tied to firm revenues. The position expects a billing target of 1100 hours with a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.
