Job description
Role Overview
This is a short, paid consulting engagement for U.S.-based legal operations and matter management specialists. The project is aimed at capturing how experienced professionals handle legal intake, matter routing, outside counsel selection, engagement terms, scope of work planning, and budget oversight in real-world settings. It is a one-off, project-based interview rather than a permanent position.
The work is remote and requires no advance preparation. You are expected to share practical, first-hand knowledge from your own experience.
Engagement Details
Location: U.S.-based experts only
Work type: Remote
Format: One-time, project-based recorded interview
Estimated compensation: $125 per hour, prorated for a 30-minute task
What You Will Do
You will take part in an AI-guided video interview of roughly 30 minutes in length. During the session, you will explain step by step how you actually perform the work in practice, with emphasis on real workflows and decision-making rather than broad summaries.
- Describe how legal requests are received, reviewed, classified, routed, prioritized, and escalated, including service-level expectations and urgent matters.
- Explain how outside counsel is chosen using factors such as panel membership, subject-matter expertise, conflicts, pricing, diversity, past performance, and required approvals.
- Walk through how engagement terms are negotiated, including rates, fee structures, outside counsel guidelines, statements of work, budgets, and annual rate reviews.
- Share how you manage matter budgets, forecasts, accruals, spend tracking, milestone reviews, status updates, and escalation when matters go over budget.
- Discuss portfolio reporting and the workflows used across intake, triage, counsel selection, scope negotiation, and budget management.
Candidate Profile
The ideal participant is someone who can confidently explain these processes in detail from direct experience and answer follow-up questions with clarity, depth, and practical examples. You should be able to describe your own workflow ownership or hands-on execution in a live production environment.
Additional Information
After the interview is completed, your recording and transcript, together with AI-generated insights, will be shared with an internal research team and an AI lab partner. The material will be used to help build a structured task inventory for the profession and to support AI model improvement.
This engagement is self-scheduled, uses your own tools, and does not restrict you from taking on other work or opportunities at the same time.
