Legal & Compliance Counsel

About the Role

We are collaborating with a rapidly expanding international digital assets platform to recruit a senior legal and compliance expert who will play an essential role in shaping the company's global expansion. This opportunity involves not taking over an existing function, but instead creating it from scratch.

Located in Singapore or Hong Kong, you will lead comprehensive licensing projects across various jurisdictions and establish scalable legal frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage complete regulatory licensing processes internationally, from strategic applications to ongoing compliance and license upkeep.
• Create and apply a company-wide legal and compliance framework addressing AML/CFT, sanctions, KYC, customer protection, data governance, and other regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Product, Technology, Risk, and Commercial departments to ensure compliance considerations are integrated throughout product development and international growth.
• Handle regulatory inquiries, investigations, enforcement actions, client disputes, and complex legal challenges.
• Prepare and negotiate commercial contracts, platform documentation, governance guidelines, and regulatory submissions.
• Develop and guide the Legal & Compliance team while nurturing a strong culture of compliance within the organization.
• Keep abreast of global regulatory changes and provide practical advice that supports sustainable growth.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least eight years of experience in legal and/or compliance roles within the financial services sector.
• Minimum five years advising cryptocurrency exchanges, digital asset platforms, or Web3 enterprises.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-border licensing and compliance initiatives.
• In-depth understanding of crypto regulations, AML/CFT, sanctions, KYC, privacy, and financial crime controls.
• Expertise managing regulatory investigations, legal disputes, and high-risk legal matters.
• Strong commercial acumen and leadership skills, with the ability to cultivate effective relationships with regulators, executives, and technical teams.
