Role Overview
Aldar Education is looking for a Learning Resource Coordinator to join Al Danah Charter School in Abu Dhabi for the 2026-2027 academic year. The school delivers the American Curriculum and sits in the centre of Abu Dhabi. It is part of a well-regarded education group known for strong teaching, learning, and a diverse school community guided by the mission: Excite, Challenge, Empower.
The role suits someone who shares the organization’s values, understands the cultural context of the region, and is excited to contribute to a high-performing school environment.
Core Duties
- Manage all learning resources in the DESTINY library platform and ensure every item is classified using the Dewey system, with books properly labelled and covered.
- Keep pupil and staff library records current in the database.
- Track overdue loans for students and teachers, collect payment for lost or damaged items, and repair damaged books where needed.
- Issue and receive books, then return them to the shelves in the correct place.
- Take part in any training needed to carry out the role effectively.
- Choose and order books and other resources suited to each key stage, student interests, and curriculum topics requested by teachers.
- Attend curriculum compliance meetings and make sure stock meets cultural sensitivity and compliance standards.
- Check books against Aldar policy, removing or covering any material that does not meet requirements.
- Prepare the annual resource order within budget, selecting materials appropriate for students’ ages, interests, and curriculum support needs.
- Process all resources so they are ready for shelving, including labelling and covering as required.
- Remove damaged, outdated, or unsuitable stock using the CREW method.
- Keep the library welcoming, organised, and suitable for all learners.
- Arrange author visits and other reading-related events.
- Plan and deliver library information literacy sessions so pupils can find print and digital resources independently.
- Work with teachers to provide topic resources for classroom use when required.
- Redesign the library in line with the AYA vision, including creating flexible areas for research, creativity, relaxation, and quiet study.
- Promote reading through engaging displays that encourage pupils to explore a broad range of books and build lifelong reading habits.
- Stay informed about new publications so suitable recommendations can be made to pupils.
- Supervise behaviour and support student use of the library and its resources at all times, both during drop-in use and scheduled sessions.
- Communicate with parents about practical ways to support reading at home.
- Organise book fairs with a local bookshop and run house competitions to strengthen whole-school literacy.
- Operate the Book Club by collecting pupil orders from a catalogue, consolidating school-wide requests, and distributing books on arrival.
- Support EAL students with literacy development and monitor their progress.
- Assist teachers and run intervention groups as needed.
- Administer the Accelerated Reader database, including class and staff setup, day-to-day maintenance, teacher support, and resource management for the programme.
- Run and monitor AR and Star Reading quizzes, then share the resulting data with teachers.
- Facilitate CATS testing.
- Follow health and safety rules, applicable legislation, and school policies at all times.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with senior leaders, department heads, students, and parents.
- A proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute effectively in a high-achieving setting.
- Initiative and readiness to begin contributing quickly.
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates should also have at least 1 year of experience in the same field.
