Lead Civil Engineer - Oil & Gas Infrastructure

Job Overview

The Lead Civil Engineer role involves leading the engineering design, development, and technical oversight for civil and structural aspects of oil and gas infrastructure projects. This position is pivotal in delivering foundation designs, structural systems, site infrastructure, and comprehensive civil planning specifically tailored for industrial oil and gas facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all civil and structural engineering stages from initial conceptualization through construction and project completion.
• Perform site investigations, including geotechnical assessments, soil and rock sampling, and laboratory testing relevant to foundation design.
• Design a variety of foundation types such as shallow, deep, mat, and specialized foundations.
• Create structural designs for buildings, processing units, equipment supports, and related infrastructure.
• Plan and design site infrastructure components like access roads, parking facilities, stormwater drainage, and utility corridors.
• Conduct detailed structural analyses incorporating finite element, load, stress, and dynamic calculations.
• Develop and enforce civil engineering design protocols, best practices, and maintain thorough documentation.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, zoning, environmental regulations, and standards including API, ASME, IBC, ACI, and AISC.
• Manage the acquisition of permits, environmental assessments, and land use approvals.
• Lead and coordinate teams of engineers, designers, consultants, and contractors in civil engineering tasks.
• Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines including process, mechanical, and electrical.
• Supervise civil and structural construction activities such as excavation, foundation work, and concrete placement.
• Carry out quality assurance, quality control inspections, material testing, and verify as-built conditions.
• Support project management aspects including cost estimation, scheduling, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
• Handle design revisions, field changes, claims, technical specifications, reporting, and project closeout procedures.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• At least 10 years of direct experience in civil and structural engineering roles within industrial projects.
• A minimum of 5 years in leadership positions involving project engineering or project management.
• Proven experience overseeing projects with budgets exceeding USD 15 million, particularly managing civil and structural elements.
• Expertise in foundation engineering and geotechnical analysis.
• In-depth understanding of structural design for industrial facilities including steel and reinforced concrete.
• Familiarity with relevant building codes and engineering standards.
• Extensive background in supervising construction activities, quality management, and field engineering support.
• Competence in structural analysis and design software and civil CAD applications.
• Proficiency with geotechnical and foundation design tools.
• Strong grounding in civil and structural engineering principles, methodologies, and industrial facility standards.
• Comprehensive knowledge of IBC, ACI, AISC, API, and ASME codes and standards.
• Experience with site planning including roadways, drainage, utilities, and environmental compliance.
