Role Overview

We invite experienced lawyers to join us as part of the Youth Justice Services team. This role involves representing clients in criminal law and related cases, including case preparation, instructing counsel, and advocating for defendants throughout all court stages. Key duties include providing duty lawyer services in Magistrates and Children's Courts, attending higher court call-overs and mentions, and offering legal guidance and advice to clients and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Support colleagues on legal matters, contribute to policy creation, law reform, and enhance service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships internally and externally.
  • Exercise sound judgment, engage constructively in team planning, and improve workflows.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess solid expertise in independently handling criminal law cases, including litigation and advocacy.
  • Understand pertinent legal practices, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients with complex needs, applying trauma-informed approaches.
  • Commit to continuous personal development, accountability for quality outcomes, responsiveness to feedback, and integrity in decision-making.

The position is a full-time role comprising a 36.25-hour week.
