About the Role
Mercor specializes in connecting top-tier legal and technical experts with premier AI research organizations. Based in San Francisco, our investors include renowned industry figures such as Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, and others.
We are looking for a Law Expert to join us on a contract basis, working remotely. Compensation ranges from $75 to $150 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess AI-produced legal research against established professional benchmarks.
- Confirm the accuracy, currency, and validity of cited legal cases, statutes, and regulations.
- Spot erroneous citations, misrepresented case rulings, expired legal authority, and absent controlling precedents.
- Delineate binding versus persuasive legal authorities and provide well-explained written justifications for your evaluations.
- Contribute to the enhancement of AI-driven legal research by giving detailed feedback and engaging in calibration sessions.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years’ professional legal experience in roles focused on litigation or in-depth research, or as a law librarian/legal researcher supporting complex legal investigations.
- Current or recent frequent use of Westlaw in a professional context.
- Proficiency verifying case law, statutes, regulations, and legal citations using Westlaw’s KeyCite and other research tools.
- Possession of a Juris Doctor degree with bar admission, or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent combined with relevant law librarian or research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background as a judicial law clerk or legal research attorney.
- Experience utilizing advanced legal research tools such as Lex Machina, PACER, or Practical Law.
- Familiarity conducting legal research across multiple jurisdictions or all 50 states.
- Expertise in areas such as commercial litigation, appellate law, employment law, regulatory matters, or government practice.
