Overview
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is hiring for a Laboratory Technician 1 in Student Wellness. This is a classified, full-time onsite role based in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area.
Role Summary
In this position, you will carry out routine and moderately complex laboratory work in support of student health services. The role includes specimen collection, testing, documentation, quality control, and close coordination with clinical staff to ensure accurate and timely results.
Key Duties
- Perform venipuncture in line with Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidance.
- Collect, handle, and process lab specimens according to established procedures and training.
- Prepare laboratory requisitions with complete and accurate supporting information.
- Run waived and moderately complex laboratory tests with accuracy, precision, and timeliness.
- Report results in accordance with internal procedures as well as state and CLIA requirements.
- Maintain quality control standards and participate in quality assurance activities.
- Use clinical and laboratory computer systems, including electronic health records and the lab information system.
- Follow up on test results under the direction of healthcare providers.
- Assist with laboratory quality assessment projects.
- Operate standard laboratory instruments and selected specialized equipment.
- Take part in continuing education and in-service training.
- Apply standard precautions, aseptic practices, and infection prevention measures.
- Interpret and apply written procedures and guidelines to everyday work.
- Build and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, other agencies, and the public.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies alongside the healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of experience performing a range of laboratory procedures is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This role also requires a Nevada State Office Lab Assistant or Lab Assistant License, a high school diploma, and experience in clinical laboratory and phlebotomy work gained in a reference laboratory, hospital, military facility, or physician office.
Preferred Background
Applicants with experience in medical assisting and laboratory testing within a physician office laboratory are preferred.

- Some positions in this series are treated as public safety-related under Nevada law and may require pre-employment drug screening.
- Certain roles require a State of Nevada Laboratory Assistant/Office Laboratory License issued by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
