Role overview
Laverty Pathology, part of Healius, is hiring a part-time Laboratory Assistant for its Adamstown, NSW site in the Newcastle area. This is a permanent position offering 22.5 hours per week. The role sits within a large pathology network with extensive laboratory and collection centre operations across Australia, providing stability, mobility, and room to grow professionally.
What you will do
- Receive and process routine specimens, including operating and maintaining analysers.
- Handle samples before and after analysis, ensuring correct workflow throughout the process.
- Spot urgent samples quickly and make sure they are prioritised appropriately.
- Carry out specimen filing, storage, and accurate data entry.
- Support laboratory Scientists when extra assistance is needed.
- Build knowledge of how different sample types must be processed for different tests.
- Stay current with updates to processing methods and requirements.
- Answer queries related to results, sample needs, and general processing questions.
- Help identify and fix issues that arise during the pre-analytical stage.
What we are looking for
- Experience in specimen processing and data entry.
- Strong customer service and communication abilities.
- Comfort working in a busy environment and managing competing demands.
- Capability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing to a team.
- Careful attention to procedure and accuracy in following instructions.
- Commitment to workplace and departmental policies and processes.
- Prior laboratory exposure and familiarity with medical terminology are helpful but not mandatory.
- Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is preferred.
