About the Role
The Junior Safety Officer plays a vital role in supporting the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department by implementing and maintaining workplace safety measures to ensure compliance and a secure working environment. Reporting to the Safety Officer or HSE Manager, this role involves conducting site inspections, promoting safe practices, assisting with incident investigations, and maintaining safety documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the enforcement of company safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out regular on-site inspections to detect unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations, company standards, and permit-to-work protocols.
- Verify that all employees and contractors use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety inductions, toolbox meetings, and awareness programs.
- Assist in investigating workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses; compile reports outlining corrective measures.
- Maintain comprehensive HSE records, including inspection reports, incident logs, and safety documents.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness activities such as evacuation drills and fire safety checks.
- Monitor workspace cleanliness and safety standards.
- Report safety hazards to supervisors and monitor follow-up actions.
- Help conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
- Ensure the maintenance and accessibility of safety signage, firefighting equipment, and first aid kits.
- Perform additional safety-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Skills
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, environmental science, engineering, or related disciplines.
- Preferably holders of NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent certifications.
- Understanding of occupational health and safety laws and industry practices.
- Fresh graduates or individuals with up to 2 years of HSE experience are welcome.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety principles and hazard recognition.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to prepare reports accurately and maintain detailed records.
- Team-oriented with a proactive approach and eagerness to learn.
- Good organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
- Capacity to work under guidance in a dynamic environment.
