Role overview
This position is for a junior footwear product engineer based in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany. The role supports the creation and technical development of bottom unit components and works closely with design, development, marketing, and external partners to turn concepts into manufacturable solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of bottom unit parts by updating CAD files, preparing 2D drawings, and maintaining tech pack information.
- Help convert design ideas into practical engineering solutions that can be manufactured efficiently.
- Work with design, development, marketing, and outside partners to keep the product creation process aligned.
- Support 3D printing, sample assembly, and basic issue resolution, including recording defects and improvement ideas.
- Assist with lab testing and wear-test coordination, and track results to help validate the product.
- Keep tooling records and revision logs up to date in the relevant systems.
- Communicate with global development teams and suppliers about sample progress and technical matters.
- Take part in research on new materials, components, and construction techniques alongside senior engineers.
- Review competitor products and market movements to inform engineering decisions.
- Be available for domestic and international travel, which is expected to be around 20%.
What the company is looking for
- A degree in engineering, footwear technology, product development, or a closely related discipline.
- Some initial hands-on experience in product engineering, footwear development, or a similar field.
- Basic knowledge of materials, tooling, and manufacturing methods, with preference for injection tooling exposure.
- Comfort using CAD software and preparing technical documentation is beneficial.
- A structured working style, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving setting.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
- An interest in innovation, performance, and solving technical problems.
- Strong English skills; additional languages are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel from time to time.
