Job description

Role Overview

The Junior Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the enforcement and upkeep of health, safety, and environmental standards within a drinks manufacturing facility. The focus is on engineering, installation, maintenance, and commissioning operations, ensuring alignment with company policies, client expectations, and health and safety laws while fostering a positive safety culture across all employees, contractors, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with deployment and adherence to the company's Health & Safety Management System alongside compliance with legal and client guidelines.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the site to detect potential hazards and verify that corrective actions are completed.
  • Support creation and evaluation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Safe Systems of Work documentation.
  • Promote safe operational practices by providing site inductions, toolbox talks, and engaging effectively with staff and external contractors.
  • Help carry out investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough documentation and corrective measures are logged.
  • Oversee contractor activities and the Permit to Work procedures to guarantee safety of engineering tasks.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records relating to health and safety, such as inspections, training, permits, and audits.
  • Encourage good housekeeping, environmental responsibility, and continual improvement in safety and environmental performance.
  • Offer day-to-day health and safety assistance to mechanical and process engineering teams during installation, maintenance, and commissioning activities.
  • Perform any other relevant health and safety duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a health and safety capacity or a relevant internship/placement.
  • Fundamental understanding of health and safety legislation.
  • Familiarity with risk assessments and safe work procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within teams.
