Junior Clinical Fellow (SHO) in Trauma and Orthopaedics

Position Overview

This is a unique opportunity to join the trauma and orthopaedic team at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Junior Clinical Fellow (Trust Doctor), equivalent to ST1-2, on a one-year fixed term contract. The role involves working as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, primarily covering ward duties, with regular opportunities to participate in operating theatre sessions and outpatient clinics.

Work Environment and Duties

The role involves close collaboration with three FY1 doctors who assist with ward responsibilities. Daily consultant ward rounds manage new admissions, with middle grade or consultant supervision for all orthopaedic patients. The hospital features a dedicated orthogeriatric team that supports management of patients over 65 years old. There are no on-call responsibilities; however, the post holder will perform ward duties every third weekend from 08:00 to 17:00.

Training and Development

This post offers exceptional exposure to trauma surgery, including opportunities to perform dynamic hip screw (DHS) procedures, ankle, and wrist fixations—an uncommon level of operative experience for a SHO role. The position is designed to support the post holder in successfully progressing toward CT applications or registrar posts.
