About the Employer
The Science Center Berlin for Social Research (WZB) is an independent social science research institute jointly funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Berlin. As a non-profit GmbH and a member of the Leibniz Association, it brings together scientists from disciplines including sociology, political science, economics, and law. Their research is theory-driven, application-oriented, often long-term, and internationally comparative. Findings are addressed to an academic audience as well as experts and practitioners in politics, business, media, and society.
The IT department falls under the institute's administrative management, overseeing the central IT infrastructure including Windows and Linux systems. It provides IT service desk support for the institute and manages IT equipment and mobile communications. The IT infrastructure is evolving toward a modern, service-oriented internal provider as part of the WZB digital strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve customer IT support requests, including troubleshooting and documenting issues
- Manage Windows client systems with Microsoft 365 and other applications
- Support mobile devices, particularly iOS platforms
- Create and update support documentation and maintain the wiki system
- Handle account management tasks
- Manage workplace hardware provisioning: procurement, inventory control, and configuration
- Provide technical assistance to various administrative departments within WZB
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Completed relevant vocational training in IT (e.g., IT specialist) or a related degree, or equivalent professional experience
- Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and resilience
- Customer-focused and solution-oriented work approach
- Demonstrated teamwork and cooperation abilities
- Proficiency in both German and English
Preferred Experience
- Prior work in IT service and customer support
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365
- Technical support experience in administrative areas such as finance, human resources, or procurement
- Familiarity with ticketing systems
