Job description
Overview
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally renowned education organisation supporting over 6,000 schools in 160 countries. The IB is currently undergoing a major digital transformation, aiming to build a resilient, secure, and scalable enterprise IT platform that fosters innovation and growth. The IT Director will spearhead the evolution of the global IT function, managing a team of about 60 technology professionals and reporting directly to the Chief Digital & Data Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Transform the IB's global IT operational model into specialised domain-focused teams with clear roles and accountability.
- Provide strategic leadership in infrastructure, cloud operations, security, identity management, corporate systems, and IT service management.
- Ensure high service reliability, operational excellence, and resilience for critical enterprise technology platforms.
- Implement modern security, identity, and risk management standards, including management of AI-related technology risks.
- Develop and enhance self-service infrastructure and platform capabilities to improve developer productivity and organisational agility.
- Lead the Quality and Test Engineering function, championing automation-first and early shift-left quality methodologies.
- Oversee technology estate upgrades, reduce technical debt, manage vendor strategies, and optimise costs.
- Collaborate with senior executives to align technology strategies with business objectives and transformation initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and grow high-performance technical leadership teams while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive senior leadership experience in enterprise IT, infrastructure, or technology operations in large, complex organisations.
- Demonstrated success in evolving operational IT functions into secure, scalable technology organisations.
- Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, networking, hosting, identity and access management, and site reliability engineering practices.
- Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity, compliance, governance, and emerging technology risks including AI implications.
- Proven experience designing and managing modern IT service and support frameworks.
- Ability to influence senior executives and lead large-scale organisational and technology transformation programs.
- Proficient in building and developing high-performing technical teams and leadership communities.
- Strong commercial insight with experience overseeing large budgets, vendor partnerships, and technology investments.
- Familiarity with modern quality engineering, automation testing, and continuous delivery methodologies.
