Position Summary
DBN seeks a knowledgeable News Media Specialist to provide daily media briefings intended for English-speaking audiences. The role involves consistently monitoring diverse Iranian news sources and social media channels, primarily in Farsi with occasional English content. The selected candidate will carefully choose pertinent news items tailored to client specifications and expertly translate and summarize these from Farsi into English.
Key Duties
- Track and evaluate a broad array of online news outlets and physical newspapers to gather relevant news tailored to customer guidelines.
- Analyze media patterns and reporting trends to understand prevalent narratives.
- Create clear, precise English summaries of chosen Iranian news content.
- Operate efficiently within strict time constraints and deadlines.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and neutrality in news selection, summarization, and writing.
- Work collaboratively with the team to guarantee timely and pertinent news updates.
- Demonstrate autonomy by working independently, editing one’s work, and utilizing personal computing resources.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English studies, international affairs, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of three years' experience in roles involving news curation, editorial decisions, or journalism, particularly those requiring proficient English writing.
- Documented experience working remotely full-time in deadline-intensive environments.
- Proficiency with social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram for identifying trending topics.
- Fluency in English and Farsi, with strong writing, communication, and comprehension abilities.
- Critical and analytical thinking skills to evaluate news relevance and significance.
- Flexibility to adjust to fluctuating news cycles and client demands.
- Capability to meet daily deadlines and work on an hourly basis.
- Up-to-date knowledge of global and regional events, with a particular focus on Iranian politics and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
- Familiarity with major Iranian, Middle Eastern, and international news broadcast and print sources.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must submit a resume accompanied by a brief cover letter explaining their suitability for the position. Successful applicants will be required to complete a 60-minute assessment. The use of artificial intelligence tools for writing tasks during the selection process is prohibited and will be monitored.
