About BondAdviser
BondAdviser stands as Australia's premier independent platform specializing in debt capital markets. The company offers comprehensive credit research, ratings, data, portfolio solutions, and workflow tools designed for institutions, wealth platforms, advisers, and fund managers. Their expertise encompasses public and private credit markets, covering both rated and unrated issuers. The business is structured around three core pillars: Research & Ratings, Investment Solutions, and WealthTech. BondAdviser uniquely operates with an open architecture approach, avoiding execution, custody, or clearing functions.
Role Overview
The Investment Analyst will support both Investment and Research teams by evaluating and analyzing a broad range of investment options, including bonds, loans, private credit, and hybrid financial instruments. This position aims to enhance BondAdviser’s offerings by contributing to investment recommendations and expanding fund ratings along with private markets coverage, aligning with the company’s growth strategy over the next five years.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed credit investment analyses across public and private sectors, including financial modelling, forecasting, relative value assessments, and liquidity evaluation.
- Evaluate bond investments considering risk versus reward, legal and capital frameworks, covenants, and market factors influencing performance.
- Perform stress testing and scenario analysis on credit portfolios to evaluate resilience under various conditions.
- Assist with due diligence related to managed funds, particularly focusing on private credit and commercial real estate debt, while supporting continual surveillance of private credit portfolios.
- Contribute to the creation of fund research reports and rating documentation as the company's coverage expands.
- Help develop portfolio strategies by generating investment ideas and identifying opportunities across portfolios and managed account mandates.
- Write research publications covering individual corporate entities, specific industries, and broader macroeconomic trends.
- Prepare client-facing presentations and address ad hoc requests from senior team members and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with analytics and data teams, leveraging AI tools to automate analyses, maintain accurate datasets, and optimize research workflows.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Strong academic performance from a top-tier university, preferably holding degrees in Commerce, Economics, Law, Engineering, or Mathematics.
- At least two years of relevant work experience within investment banking, fund management, research firms, or financial services.
- Preferred background combining funds management expertise with credit research proficiency.
- Demonstrated keen interest in fixed income and credit markets, with preferred exposure to private credit, leveraged finance, or structured finance transactions.
- Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient financial modelling and valuation skills alongside understanding portfolio management and security valuation concepts.
- Familiarity or willingness to develop skills in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, and SQL is highly desirable.
- Comfortable integrating modern AI technologies in research workflows while exercising sound judgment regarding their practical constraints.
- Experience in conducting thorough research and due diligence processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines in dynamic settings.
- Self-driven approach to workload management and ongoing professional growth; participation in CFA programs is an advantage.
- Passion for investing, particularly within global credit markets.
- Fluent professional proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Professional demeanor with a commitment to exceeding client expectations and strong interpersonal skills conducive to teamwork.
- Experience with Bloomberg is advantageous; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is expected.
