Role Summary

The Healthcare team, managing over $100 billion in healthcare investments across areas such as Biopharma, Medical Technology, and Healthcare Services, is seeking a Data Science Analyst to collaborate closely with Global Industry Analysts and Portfolio Managers. This role focuses on leveraging data science, AI, and alternative datasets to develop distinctive investment insights in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with industry analysts and portfolio managers within the Healthcare team to drive investment research.
  • Convert broad investment inquiries into concrete, testable data science workflows and analytical results.
  • Incorporate AI and agentic tools to optimize research processes and support generating investment ideas.
  • Effectively communicate analytical findings, including their limitations and confidence levels.
  • Provide expert data science support across all healthcare coverage areas.
  • Quickly familiarize with new companies, sub-sectors, datasets, and business models when needed.
  • Prioritize incoming requests based on potential investment impact, feasibility, and repeatability.
  • Construct unique signals and analytical frameworks from alternative and traditional healthcare datasets.
  • Assess dataset quality, bias, coverage, and signal durability.
  • Develop reusable analytical tools, screens, and research outputs applicable across various healthcare themes.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to productionize valuable signals as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience in data science, alternative data, healthcare analytics, investment research, or similar analytical roles.
  • Prior collaboration with investment or research teams or senior business stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL programming languages.
  • Experience with AI/LLM tools and agentic workflows to enhance research efficiency and idea formation.
  • Comfort working with complex, real-world datasets that can be disorganized.
  • Track record sourcing, evaluating, and utilizing diverse alternative datasets beyond established sources.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate dataset quality, biases, and signal robustness.
  • Deep interest in markets and companies with the ability to translate data into viable investment theses.
  • Capability to transform ambiguous business or investment questions into actionable analyses.
  • Excellent communication skills to present nuanced insights to senior stakeholders clearly.
  • High level of judgment and independence working in uncertain and evolving environments.

Location and Work Arrangement

The preferred base is Wellington’s Global Headquarters in Boston, MA; however, candidates located in New York, NY will also be considered. Employees are expected to work onsite four days weekly with the option to work remotely one day per week, supporting a hybrid work culture.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation package ranges from USD 90,000 to USD 180,000 base salary and may include discretionary bonuses and incentives.
